How SILK handles your data — in plain English, then the legal detail.
The short version. SILK is built around one principle: your clipboard content never leaves your browser. The web app and extension process everything on your device. The only exception is the optional AI Gate feature, which sends text to our Cloudflare-hosted AI gateway when you explicitly use it. We store no clipboard content, ever. We don't have accounts, logins, or user tracking beyond aggregated, privacy-preserving page analytics.
This Privacy Policy applies to the SILK website (silkpaste.com, including silkpaste.pages.dev and silkpaste.io) and the SILK Chrome browser extension ("SILKPaste" on the Chrome Web Store).
The service is operated by Intelix.AI Ltd, registered in England and Wales (Company No. 11805195), with registered office at 30 Churchill Place, Canary Wharf, London E14 5RE, United Kingdom.
For the purposes of UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018, Intelix.AI Ltd is the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with the service.
SILK is designed to minimise data processing. The categories are:

The core SILK engine — pattern detection, PII detection, invisible-character stripping, compliance scoring, CV anonymisation — runs entirely in your browser, in JavaScript, on your device. No clipboard content is sent to our servers, written to disk, or shared with any third party.
This is true for both the web app at silkpaste.com and the Chrome extension.
The SILKPaste Chrome extension requests the following permissions. Each has a specific purpose:
clipboardRead — so you can paste text into the extension popup for cleaning. Read only when you trigger a paste action within the extension.clipboardWrite — so the extension can write cleaned text back to your clipboard when you press "Copy clean". Written only on explicit user action.storage — to remember your preferences (e.g. default strip settings, AI Gate enabled/disabled) locally in your browser. Stored in chrome.storage.local; never synced to any server.The extension does not use tabs, host_permissions, background clipboard monitoring, or any permission that allows it to read page content or observe the clipboard passively. It only acts when you open the popup and interact with it.
The AI Gate is an optional feature that lets you check text against an AI model before pasting it into ChatGPT, Copilot, Gemini, or similar tools. It is off by default and must be explicitly triggered each time you use it.
When you use the AI Gate:

You should review Google Gemini API Terms and Google Privacy Policy before submitting sensitive content. We recommend using AI Gate only on content you would be comfortable sending to any major AI provider.
Rule of thumb. If SILK's local scanner flags credentials, API keys, medical records, or regulated personal data, do not submit that content to the AI Gate. Strip and clean first, then decide whether the residual content is appropriate to send.

Transfers outside the UK are made under UK International Data Transfer Agreements or Addendum, or to countries with UK adequacy status.

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ICO).
SILK does not use tracking cookies. The website uses Plausible Analytics, which is cookieless, GDPR-compliant by design, and does not collect personal data or cross-site identifiers.
The Chrome extension does not set cookies or use any analytics service.
All connections to SILK services use HTTPS with TLS 1.3. The Cloudflare Worker for AI Gate uses encrypted secrets for API credentials and has no logging of request bodies. We follow industry-standard practices for key management and access control.
No system is perfectly secure. If you believe you have found a security issue, please report it to security@silkpaste.com.
SILK is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly process personal data from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such data, contact us and we will delete it.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the "Last updated" date above. For the Chrome extension, material changes will also be disclosed in the Chrome Web Store listing update notes.
